Below is a listing of ATCMHMR's continuum of comprehensive
psychiatric crisis services.
24/7 Crisis Hotline: 512-472-HELP (4357)
The Crisis Hotline provides access to licensed counselors 24 hours
a day, seven days a week, with all crisis calls referred to Psychiatric
Emergency Services (PES) staff. Staff members are trained/certified
by American Association of Suicidolgy (AAS) standards. The Hotline
will be accredited by AAS in May 2008.
PES staff provides rapid assessment, crisis intervention services,
and referral to resources to crisis line callers. PES staff contacts
911 as needed when the client is in imminent danger.
Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES)
Our Psychiatric Emergency Services serve residents of Travis County
who are experiencing psychiatric crisis. The PES team works closely
with other ATCMHMR programs, local emergency rooms, and the Crisis
Intervention Teams (CIT) of Austin Police Department (APD) and Travis
County Sheriff’s Department (TCSO).
PES is designed as a free-standing walk-in psychiatric emergency
service open 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. PES provides psychiatric
assessment, crisis intervention services, linkage with resources
and physician services to children/youth and adults experiencing
psychiatric distress.
Licensed clinical staff (including Medical Doctors, nurses, Licensed
Professionals of the Healing Arts and Qualified Mental Health Professionals)
is available for screening, assessment and triage. Approximately
800 people are seen at PES each month.
Mobile Outreach Crisis Team (MCOT)
ATCMHMR’s MCOT is funded by Travis County and the Texas Department
of State Health Services for residents who are experiencing psychiatric
crisis. MCOT is designed to immediately respond to the individuals
experiencing psychiatric distress at the site of the crisis.
As part of ATCMHMR’s continuum of comprehensive psychiatric
crisis services, the team works in close conjunction with PES and
the CIT of APD and TCSO. MCOT provides psychiatric assessments,
crisis intervention services, brief follow-up and service linkage
to adults and children/youth in non-clinical, community settings.
The MCOT team is available 7 days per week, 10 a.m. until midnight,
with on-call availability 24 hours a day.
The Inn (Crisis Residential Services):
The Inn provides short-term psychiatric residential care to adults
in Travis County. The Inn team works in close conjunction with ATCMHMR
programs, inpatient psychiatric hospitalization programs and other
community providers.
The Inn is open 24 hours per day, 365 days per year and is co-located
with PES, MCOT and 23-Hour Observation. The Inn is a residence that
provides psychiatric respite services, medication stabilization,
around-the-clock nursing services, psychosocial rehabilitative skills
training. Also provided are linkage to resources and physician services.
The Inn provides a sixteen-bed facility serving adults at 18 years
and older.
